A coworker once told me that once you’re labeled as a homeowner, your car insurance rates go up b/c you can be sued for your house. Is there any truth to this? If it matters, I live in NY.

If I move out of my (mortgaged) house and decide to rent it out, will my insurance rate go up once occupied by a tenant?

A few weeks ago a city contractor was hired to tear down the condemned building next to our house. Somehow, he managed to nick our house with his trackhoe and took out a chunk of our roof. At the time, he promised to fix it but now his insurance company is using words like “liability insurance” and “depreciation” and it almost sounds to me like this is going to cost US a bunch of money. We considered going through our own insurance but then our rates would go up.
This was 100% his mistake. How do we make sure that he is the one to pay for it?

I just bought a wonderful triplex in Cleveland. I won’t be able to owner-occupy for 10 mos. If you’re in love with your house insurer, might you tell me about that? (Company name, agent, ph#, good rates/service, etc.) Thanks very much!

the owner of the house i rented want to add a car to his insurance policy which he already had 2 cars. He lives upstairs, i rented downstairs. When he called american family insurance, the agent said he can’t have that car under his name because the new car has to be rated under my name because i am younger. He said something about minnesota statue law required him to do that and won’t rate under the owner. Can a person has more than one car insured and not have anything to do with the renter that live there. thanks.
The agent said that no matter the relationship whether son/ daughter or someone just renting there, it does not make any difference. I sure don’t want to be responsible for someone else insurance . Is there such a statue law or some kind like that?
