Near where I live, there have been loads of floods, as shown on the news. Today, I saw a couple pleading poverty because their house is totally flooded. However, in the next breath they say they have no house insurance, I assume they mean contents insurance. I can’t believe that people say a few pounds a month by not being insured but know what the consequences could be. Am I the only person who feels no pity for these people?
Sorry, I meant they save a few pounds not “say”.
Bear in mind that these people have to insure their cars and surely their house and it’s contents are worth a lot more to them. I know it would be a nightmare if it happened to anyone of us but I imagine it would be much worse if we had to think about paying for damage rather than replacing material things.

HYPOTHETICALLY…………If you are trying to sell a house, you get audited (like it says in the bill) and they say that you have to upgrade a whole lot of stuff that you can’t AFFORD to upgrade (windows, doors, a/c unit etc.) because you HAVE to be GREEN before you can LEGALLY sell it, would it just be better to ‘accidentally’ burn the house down and collect the insurance money? HYPOTHETICALLY……….
Hey STEVE! I don’t think you read the ENTIRE question! Liberals are so emotional……((((sigh))))
So TOAD………The economic turndown gets worse. Real Estate values plummet. The dollar crashes. The world falls into chaos. Donald Trump commits *******. The beast appears. Makes sense. (I may be over analyzing that a bit)

I have enough medical expenses to meet the 7.5% AGI figure on my Sch A. Since I’m able to deduct medical this year, I was wondering if I can deduct the medical portion on my car insurance and house insurance?

Just spoke to a friend who purchased a house after Katrina that did NOT flood in the Katrina affected area insurance was $1200 / year. Now rates are $ 4500 / year same coverage same company. NO CLAIM. WHat’s the deal? How can they do this? Flood Insurance covers if the house floods. SO why are the rates so high?
What is everyone else paying in Louisiana and what part of Louisiana are you in?

Example:
Two different families own a house each, earn around the same income. One family goes without to pay house insurance, the other doesn’t care.
The person who doesn’t pay insurance has their house burn down – the community donate them a free house.
WHY?
