NBC misreports size of Health care reform by 100000%

In a segment discussing the Health Care Reform summit hosted by President Obama, NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell mis-reports the size of the Democratic Reform Package as “$900 TRILLION dollars over ten years” instead of “$900 BILLION dollars over ten years”. NBC backs her up with an identical graphic mis-reporting the same incorrect figure. No correction was ever issued. Not that night nor the next (the MSNBC website *corrected* the video and online text to read only “$1 Trillion”, which is STILL wrong, off by only $100 BILLION DOLLARS.) In a story on the cost of Health Care Reform, with Republicans being quoted on-air as saying “We can’t afford this”, getting the COST of reform correct would seem vitally important, don’tchathink?

Individual Health Insurance Reform Weekly EasyToInsureME

Week of October 19, 2009

Inside-the-Beltway politics were in full swing last week as the insurance industry came under heavy fire from some members of Congress and the media for releasing a PricewaterhouseCoopers report prior to the Senate Finance Committee’s scheduled vote on its health care reform proposal. The report found that the Committee’s reform package would drive up the cost of private insurance coverage for individuals, families and businesses. As a result, the industry was openly accused of trying to scuttle health care reform, even though America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) stated clearly in a press release and a letter to key Senate leaders that the industry was simply fulfilling its responsibility to bring to light serious flaws in the bill. The industry still intends to work toward bipartisan reform. By the time the furor died down, no one had seriously refuted the substance of the report. In fact, just a day later a new report from Oliver Wyman arrived at very similar conclusions. Regardless of these reports, Aetna has consistently warned that meaningful health care reform must address rising costs and that insurance market reforms must be linked with a strong individual coverage requirement to work effectively. Aetna will continue to deliver this message and help others understand how the market works.

Reid: Health care rights, costs, more – Answering Your Questions

Following Thursday’s health care summit at the White House, Nevada Senator Harry Reid responded to the most popular questions submitted by viewers of YouTube’s live stream of the summit. Reid is the US Senate Majority Leader.

Why is there such a delay in implementation of health care bills of the House and Senate?

It seems to me that waiting 2 years to implement health care legislation will encourage insurance companies to raise premiums through the roof similar to the way the credit card legislation allowed Citibank to increase their rates to 25% and more. Who is the government really looking out for? It is certainly not the aveage taxpayer.

If i move out of my parents house, can i still be on my parents health and auto insurance policies?

I am 18 and ready to move out, i am confident that i can afford it and the expenses that come with it. But, i am wondering if i am going to have to purchase my own health insurance and auto insurance policies, or can i still be under my parents policies? I plan on living in the same city.

Health Insurance and other Insurance?

OK OK OK. Health Insurance is basically coming down to the point of covering the lower income. Will they contribute??? I already pay taxes for medicare and medicaid. Everyone is suppose to have insurance on their cars to drive in most states. You see how that happens. Let some ghetto idiot hit you and see whose insurance pays. Everyone is suppose to have house insurance. That doesn’t go so well. Insurance harmed and backed out of a lot of policies when KATRINA came to MISSISSIPPI and the insurance was gonna lose alot of money. So how exactly is making medical insurance a national health care plan gonna work when we cant get any thing that says insurance on it to pay but they are oh so glad to take your money. Also using medical insurance will there be a cap limit on how much you can use on an individual basis. Will your rates go up if you are frequent user such as people too stupid to get a regular check up instead of going to ER???

On a scale of 1 to 10: What is the potential for a Health Insurance Rate Authority to be corrupt?

In essence the federal govt. wants the ability to control price increases this Health Insurance Rate Authority considers “excessive”. I’m assuming the president would appoint these people?? They would be “experts” as well?? (will have worked in the insurance industry)

10 – very good chance
1- no chance at all
