11-9-09 – During a press conference at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Nancy Pelosi skirted a surprise question, twice. The questions pertained to 5-year jail terms and 0000 fines for those refusing to buy health insurance under her plan. However, she did say her plan was “fair”. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, was in Seattle on Monday, November 9, 2009 where she joined Democratic Reps. Jay Inslee, Jim McDermott and Norman Dicks in a tour of Swedish Medical Center. Pelosi’s visit came less than 48 hours after the US House of Representatives passed the massive and short-sighted “Affordable Health Care for America Act” bill by a very narrow margin, 220-215. Pelosi needed at least 218 votes for passage. The closed door meetings and their partisan Democrat scheme worked despite the obvious will of the People as a Rasmussen poll found that 57% Americans opposed while only 41% approved government run health care. By all accounts, this bill should have died. However, the Stupak amendment revived it at the promise of removing funding for abortions, which we all know can be reversed later on. The Stupak amendment to HR 3962 was proposed and approved in the House of Representatives on November 7, 2009. UPDATE: As of Dec 22nd 2009, public funding of abortion was added by language c0-sponsored by Sen. Murray (D-WA) & Sen. Boxer (D-WA. They lied…surprise, surprise, surprise. Even Obama later admitted, “there were some stray cat and dogs that got snuck in…that we were in …

The health insurance industry has some lingering doubts about President-elect Barack Obama’s health care plan. Even though they have supported a plan that will require them to accept all applicants without regard to pre-existing conditions, there are still concerns. The National Health Insurance Exchange is giving them issue.

The National Health Insurance Exchange would give Americans a choice between a private plan and a government sponsored plan. The premise is that by combining government sources and open market options, the insured will have more resources with which to tailor a custom plan. The New York Times reports Tom Daschle, the incoming HHS Secretary, as stating that the government’s plan is designed around the Medicare model.

The Plan would encourage competition between itself and participating private companies. Proponents say the competition that it encourages is likely to drive down market rates. The insurance industry, however, says this is not necessarily true. They argue that the opposite is true, that the government plan would likely underpay doctors for services rendered, causing private providers to raise their prices to cover their losses experienced from government plans.

Karen Ignagni, president of America’s Health Insurance Plans, recently stated “A new public program similar to Medicare would exacerbate cost-shifting, which already adds $1,500, or 10%, to the average premium for a family of four.” President-elect Obama, in spite of differences, seems to be keeping his word regarding giving all parties an equal seat at the negotiating table. This in itself is commendable.

Stephanie Cutter, spokesperson for Obama’s White House transition, recently said, “These are listening sessions. We are trying to find people who share Obama’s goal of health care reform, even if they disagree on the specifics.” Thousands of meetings have already been scheduled with health care reform as the subject. All parties are being welcomed.

If you find yourself asking questions about your present <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.gohealthinsurance.com”>health insurance</a> predicament, not knowing where to turn for answers, then visit the web’s best known and most extensive source of advice at www.GoHealthInsurance.com to learn about available <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.gohealthinsurance.com/plan-finder.html”>health insurance plans</a>.

In the Seattle Times February 9, David Sirota’s syndicated column exposes the lack of change in the new administration:
“America was told that finally after years of yes-men running the government, we were getting a president who would follow Abraham Lincoln’s load, fill his administration with varying viewpoints, and glean empirically sound policy from the clash of ideas.

“Little did we know that the ‘team of rivals’ was what George Orwell calls ‘Newspeak’: an empty slogan.

“Obama’s national security team, for instance, includes not a single Iraq War opponent. The president has not only retained George W. Bush’s defense secretary, Robert Gates, but also 150 other Bush Pentagon appointees. The only `rivalry’ is between those who back increasing the already bloated defense budget by an absurd amount, and those who aim to boost it by a ludicrous amount.

“Of course, that lock-step uniformity pales in comparison to the White House’s economic team — a squad of corporate lackeys disguised as public servants.
“At the top is Lawrence Summers, the director of Obama’s national economic council. As Bill Clinton’s treasury secretary in the late 1990′s Summers worked with his deputy, Tim Geithner (now Obama’s treasury secretary) and Clinton’s aide Rahm Emanuel (now Obama’s chief of staff) to champion job-killing trade deals and deregulation that Obama Commerce Secretary Judd Gregg helped shepherd through Congress as a Republican senator.”

Some people call this economic package Obama boasts about as merely a way to force the taxpaying public to guarantee the financial industry’s bad loans.

No, this is definitely not the change that Obama’s campaign boasted about, is it? No, indeed, it’s the same people doing the same things, and the U.S. taxpayer footing the bill for failure.

The February 10 front page of the New York Times revealed this headline:

GEITHNER SAID TO HAVE PREVAILED ON THE BAILOUT

Stephen Labaton and Edmund L. Andrews in their article datelined from Washington, D.C. explained:

“The Obama administration’s new plan to bail out the nation’s banks was fashioned after a spirited debate that pitted the Treasury Secretary
Timothy F. Geithner against some of the president’s top political hands.

“In the end, Mr. Geithner largely prevailed in opposing tougher conditions on financial institutions that were sought by presidential aides, including David Axelrod, a senior adviser to the president, according to administration and congressional officials.”

What are some of the changes that Geithner wanted included? It will cost billions more!

As Labaton and Andrews revealed:

“It calls for the creation of a joint treasury and federal reserve program at an initial cost of $250 billion to $500 billion to encourage investors to acquire soured mortgage-related assets from banks.

“It wants the Fed to use its balance sheet to provide the financing, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation might provide guarantees to investors who participate in the program.

“A second component of the plan would broadly expand to $500 billion to $1 trillion, an existing $200 billion program run by the Federal Reserve to try to unfreeze the market for commercial, student, auto and credit cards.”

The big question to making these grandiose plans work is where is all this bailout cash coming from?

China, we hear, is experiencing its own recession. We already owe China more than $1 trillion. China is cutting back in loans to the U.S. as it explains it needs money for China more than ever.

To put people in top positions who sent our jobs away and reward bank chiefs who took huge bonuses and put the same colossal bank president failures back in power does seem unforgivable.

America must remain strong so future generations will have the strength to pay off this gigantic national debt.

President Obama, what on earth happened to all your glowing promises for change?
